Rocío García de la Nuez (Las Villas, 1955)

Rocio is one of the most important female Contemporary Cuban painters. She graduated from the renown Academy of San Alejandro in 1975, and earned a Master's degree in Belle Arts from Répin Academy in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Her works are confrontational, returning to themes of sex and violence. The figures and their surroundings are often drawn in a style that suggests animation. Her paintings read as a moment in time that moves along rather than remaining static.
