Arturo Montoto (Pinar del Río, 1953)

Painter, engraver and photographer. Montoto graduated as a Master of Fine Art at the Institute VI Surikov, Moscow, specializing in mural painting. His work is part of the collection of the Havana National Museum of Fine Arts, the Lowe Art Museum in United States and the Vatican Museum in Rome.

Between architectural elements, you can find an object as a focal point. It is the contrast between light and dark, new and old, live and dead, that creates an attraction in the artist's works. Arturo Montoto has found the point of relation in these antique stones, illuminated by his paint brush, with the fruit that magically comes to life on the canvas. There is nothing further away from his soul than the concept of static or ephemeral.
