Luis Catalá Maldonado (Gibara,1935 )

Born in Gibara, a small fishermen's town in Holguin, Luis Catala is a master of the watercolors. Although he studied for a short time at the Art Academy of San Alejandro, Catala is mainly a self-taught artist.

His pieces are often inspired by the unique landscape and people of his natal town, where he still lives. Fishermen, marinas and historic buildings are the main topics of his work; executed with an exceptional mastery of lights and colors.

Catala is a unique artist and human being. He has chosen to live a modest life, and has found his joy in painting and photographing his beloved "Gibara".
